Biography
Background
- Dr. Jitendra Singh is a popular Diabetes specialist of international repute,
Professor of Diabetes and Endocrinology, noted intellectual, author, invited faculty to all
the major national and South Asian Diabetes conferences, and a social activist. He was born in
the erstwhile Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir into a Hindu Rajput family. Dr. Singh is the eldest
child of Late Sh. Rajinder Singh and Smt. Shanti Devi. His family hails from the Marmat area in the Doda district.
Coming from a far-flung village called Kalota in the hilly district of Doda, Jammu & Kashmir (J&K),
he rose to the national level. Dr. Jitendra Singh is married to Manju Singh, an educationalist with a
background in Economics. She holds an M.A. in Economics and a B.Ed. degree.

- Prestigious "Lifetime Achievement Award" presented by Padma Shri Dr. V Mohan, Chairman Dr Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre at a glittering ceremony during "International Diabetes Update 2024" at Chennai.
The citation recognised Dr Jitendra Singh's exemplary dedication to the advancement of diabetology, diabetes care and diabetes research which earned him acknowledgement across the country and overseas. The citation also noted that falling in the genre of the great Dr. B C Roy, Dr Jitendra Singh is another rare example of a nationally known Medical Professional, who proved equally successful in public life .
- Contributed over five thousand published articles in the press, including the widely read syndicated column Tales of Travesty.
- Authored five books, three monographs published by Elsevier, and over a dozen chapters in various textbooks of Diabetes and Medicine for MD students.
- Contributed a chapter and wrote the foreword for the latest edition (2024) of the RSSDI Text Book of Diabetes Mellitus.
- Co-authored guidelines for the management of Diabetes Mellitus in Pregnancy, accepted and recommended by the WHO.
- First medical professional to receive the prestigious "Jamna Devi Gian Devi" award for journalism, recognized as a popular freelance journalist with thousands of published articles in national and regional press.
- Authored five popular books on Diabetes awareness, including Diabetes Made Easy, which was featured in the Best Seller section of the World Book Fair at Pragati Maidan in 2002.
- Awarded a Gold Medal for Oration at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER), Puducherry.
- Received the Outstanding Personality award from former Union Health Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad in 2009.

- Dr. Jitendra Singh has been dedicated to social and public service from his student days.
He resigned from his government job as a Professor of Medicine and Endocrinology to devote
himself fully to the service of society.
- He brought Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) to the national map through his impactful performance as a
National TV panelist for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and as the Chief Spokesperson for J&K.
Dr. Singh played a major role in the 2008 Amarnath Land Row Agitation and was a member of the core
committee of Shri Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti (SASS).

- Elected to the 16th, 17th, and 18th Lok Sabha from Udhampur Constituency (Lower House of the Indian Parliament) from the erstwhile State of Jammu & Kashmir (now Union Territory) in 2014, 2019, and 2024 respectively.
